Prior to being ‘discovered’ by the label’s founder, Chris Strachwitz, Lipscomb had spent his life as a sharecropper in his hometown of Navasota, Texas. Lipscomb’s ‘discovery’ was one of the greatest by-products of the blues and folk revival of the late ’50s and early ’60s as this fantastic vinyl reissue of his first album will attest.
